When 1930's screen legend Carole Lombard disguises herself as a princess aboard a transalantic ocean liner, she and Fred MacMurray become entangled in a fast-paced murder mystery. A stage-struck Brooklyn actress (Lombard) draws on her talent, posing as royalty aboard an ocean liner bound for Hollywood. Aiding in the deception is her companion, the phony Duchess Gertrude (played marvelously by Alison Skipworth). But their ruse becomes hilariously complicated when they unwittingly become involved in a murder. Meanwhile, fellow passenger, maestro King Mantell (MacMurray) is smitten by the "princess", and he and his partner (William Frawley) soon get swept up in her charade. This clever caper set aboard a glorious ship includes a memorable scene where MacMurray performs "My Concertina" during a talent show. Based on an actual incident, The Princess Comes Across is an engaging film reviewd by Daily Variety as "a sparkling blend of comedy and whodunit."
